Number rental FAQ

What does phone number rental mean?

You hold one virtual phone number for a fixed period of 7 to 90 days. During that time the number is yours alone and receives unlimited incoming SMS from any service.

Can a rented number be used with any service?

Yes. A rented number accepts messages from every supported service — messengers, social networks, fintech and the rest — rather than being tied to one.

Is KYC required to rent a phone number?

No. OTPDrop asks for no identity document, email address or phone number at any stage. Pay in cryptocurrency and the number is issued.

What happens when a rental expires?

The number returns to the pool and may later be rented by somebody else. Extend before expiry to keep it — an account that asks you to re-verify a number you no longer hold is effectively lost.

Should you rent a number or buy a one-time code?

Buy a one-time code for a signup you will never revisit. Rent when the account matters, because it will eventually ask you to confirm the number on file.

Which operator types are available for rentals?

Virtual, physical and premium ranges. Virtual is cheapest; premium meets the least resistance from services that check carrier ranges.

What does renting a phone number mean?

Renting means holding one virtual number for a fixed term — 7 to 90 days here — and receiving as many SMS on it as you like. A one-time number gives you a single code on a number you never see again; a rental is the opposite trade. You are paying for continuity: the number that verified your account in week one is still yours in week six, when the service asks you to confirm it again.

When is renting worth it?

Rent when the account matters. Anything you will log back into eventually asks to re-verify the number on file, and an account you cannot re-verify is an account you have lost. Do not rent for a single signup you will never revisit — at $3.00 a week against $0.25 for one code, a one-time number is cheaper and refunds itself if nothing arrives.

Which country and carrier should you pick?

Numbers cover 197 countries, each with its own carriers. Match the number to where the account will actually be used — a mismatch between the number and everything else about an account is an obvious anomaly to the service checking it.

Rentals are paid from your balance, funded in crypto. No card, no billing address, no identity check. That last part matters: renting an anonymous number with a card carrying your name defeats the purpose, because the payment identifies you even though the number does not. See the Monero guide for what that does and does not protect.
